Experienced Hunters Welcome
If you’re an experienced hunter, we’ll customise your hunt to challenge your skills and meet your goals. Our guides’ expert knowledge of the terrain and game patterns will help you maximise your success.
What to expect – your day in the hills
Your experience at Puhi Peaks is tailored to your pace and ability. While the terrain is vast and rugged, our approach is down-to-earth and focused on ensuring you feel at home in the high country.
- The Morning Briefing: We start the day with a clear plan. Meeting at the Woolshed, we’ll discuss the terrain, safety protocols, and the specific goals for the day’s harvest.
- Accessible Terrain: You’ll be exploring some of New Zealand’s most dramatic scenery. While we can hike the alpine ranges, our extensive track network and 4WD LUVs (light utility vehicles) allow us to cater to those with limited mobility or medical conditions, ensuring the high country is accessible to everyone.
- Expert Mentorship: Our guides are here to teach, not just to lead. If you’re a novice, we’ll spend time on rifle safety, glassing (spotting) techniques, and understanding animal behavior.
- The Ethical Harvest: When the time comes, we focus on a clean, ethical harvest. We’ll work together on the field dressing, and if time allows, our guides are happy to show you the traditional skills of “breaking down” an animal for the table.
- A Shared Legacy: You’ll return to the station woolshed not just with meat for the freezer, but with a deeper understanding of how the high country works and the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped protect this sanctuary.

Self-Drive
Our station is accessible off State Highway 1, by 18km of unsealed road up the Puhi Puhi Valley. You are welcome to bring your vehicle; however, we recommend a 4WD-capable vehicle, as you will cross four small fords along Puhi Puhi Valley Road.
