Experience a challenging and rewarding self-guided hunt on Mount Alexander. Explore vast, rugged terrain on your own or with up to three mates for the day, testing your skills and immersing yourself in breathtaking wilderness.
This private unguided hunting block consists of steep, open terrain with scree slopes and a mix of bush, tussock, and matagouri. Access is on foot from the Woolshed. Drop off and pick up in our farm ATV can be booked for an extra cost, subject to availability.
Access is subject to availability – Please enquire using the booking form. We will then contact you to confirm availability. Payment is then required to complete your booking.
- Firearms Licence: A current firearms licence is mandatory to apply.
If a member of your party does not hold an FAL, they must be under the direct, one-on-one supervision of a valid licence holder within your group at all times. - Hunting Experience: A good level of hunting experience is essential – this is not terrain for beginners
- Fitness: A good level of physical fitness is required to navigate the demanding terrain
- $130 per person per day (includes 1 meat animal per person)
- Limit of up to 4 people (whole block to yourself/your party)

Need to Know

Suggested additional gear list for hunting:
- Rifle (ideally calibre .243 or bigger) fitted with a scope & preferably a suppressor
- Please ensure your rifle is sighted in before arriving at Puhi Peaks
- Ammunition
- Binoculars
- Knife
- Hearing protection (especially if the rifle is not suppressed)
- Suitable footwear for the scree slopes and steep, open terrain
- Suitable clothing – we are a sub alpine environment and the weather can change quickly
- Provision to take your animals/meat home – chilly bin, ice packs, cotton sheets/pillow cases
We have an unpowered meat shed available for use, or a powered meat chiller that can be rented for $30 per day/part thereof.

If you are staying with us, please bring:
- Sleeping bag/bedding
- Towel and toiletries / personal items
- Head torch/lamp
- Slippers or indoor shoes for the woolshed

Self-Drive
Our station is accessible off State Highway 1, by 18km of unsealed road up the Puhi Puhi Valley. You are welcome to bring your vehicle; however, we recommend a 4WD-capable vehicle, as you will cross four small fords along Puhi Puhi Valley Road. The road conditions require good suspension and reasonable chassis clearance.

Tea and coffee facilities are available at the woolshed.
The water in the Woolshed is UV Triple filtered and safe to drink.
Snacks/lunch/drinks are self-catered.
